Medical Illness

Having experienced my own medical struggles, I understand how challenging these journeys can be for one’s mental health. Therapy can be a integral part of your treatment as well as a form of self-care.

More on Medical Illness

Facing a significant illness can feel isolating, frightening, frustrating, and confusing. You might feel alone, as if no one truly understands what you’re going through. Anger is common—wondering why this has happened to you. You may face the loss of friends, family, work, or even your ability to care for yourself. If you’re grappling with a serious or terminal diagnosis, the waiting can leave you scared and lost.

Remember, you don’t have to navigate this alone. I’ve had the privilege of working with many individuals facing various diseases, including those at the end of their lives. Some of the conditions I’ve encountered include:

Various types of cancer
ALS
Dementia/Alzheimer’s
Heart disease
Gynecologic issues
End-stage organ failure
Multiple sclerosis

You are not alone in this journey.

My Approach

01
In our first session, I will focus on getting to know you, exploring your history, support systems, and any additional relevant information to better understand your unique situation. It is helpful to learn more about your physical health and the medical illness you are struggling with.
02
In our therapy sessions, I’ll provide a supportive space for you to navigate the emotional challenges of living with a medical illness.
03
Together, we’ll explore your feelings, discuss coping strategies, and work on building resilience, helping you find a sense of hope and empowerment as you manage your journey.

In a first therapy session, you can expect a welcoming and confidential environment where you can share your thoughts and feelings. I will typically begin by discussing your background and the reasons you're seeking therapy including current struggles and starting to explore goals. The session is an opportunity for you to ask questions and express any concerns you may have about the therapy process.  Overall, the first session is about establishing rapport, understanding your needs, and laying the foundation for your therapeutic journey. It’s a safe space to begin exploring your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Therapy sessions can be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly. I generally prefer to meet with clients weekly for the first 8 to 12 sessions. However, some clients may begin with bi-weekly sessions, and we will determine the frequency together.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance directly, but I can provide superbills for my clients. These superbills can be submitted to your insurance company for potential partial reimbursement, depending on your plan's benefits. Please reach out to your insurer's member services to inquire about reimbursement for out-of-network mental health providers.

What platform do you use for telehealth?
